After the opening keynote/Serges public birthday party, we started off by joining in on our Sakri’s “How to improve your text life” session. As supporters and as clean-lean-disturbing machine(s). We entered a full room some minutes too late, after Sakri had already started. Running 3x times in front of the projector in stead of going around it. And elegantly went on taking our places while rearranging half the “curtains” at the windows. ;)
It was good fun, Sakri style, hilarious pictures, relaxed tempo & of course interesting to see the Text Layout Framework in action. A section in the Adobe help many people would always fly over without noticing, until now. With this text effects, you can start to see the power of this framework. Worth to take a look.
Next session in line… “Character based animation” of the Volstok Telefunken “Monsters” from “Man bijt hond”. Wow those cartoons were sweet. They showed us how they did it in After Effects, Illustrator & Photoshop. Using bones, parenting & expressions. (I was surprised to see code in AfterEffects ;)
3th session o the day was Film visual effects time-line. An old student, Jo Plaete, of the PIH – multimedia who works as an 3D artist and pipe-line team member for some big movie producers & directors. The use of extensive plugins, Maya & Python. Where Python is becoming the new standard in the movie-3d world.
4th session was “The AppStore Revolution craze” of Scott Janousek. Finally saw him in real life. We had some small talk afterwards. Mostly about beer, and well…mobile phones. etc. It wasn’t a technical session, too bad, but more a showing of the market situation in North America. He’ll be posting his slides online any day. They contain some interesting graphs, stats & numbers.
5th was Adnerds, “Why nerds will rule the world. Conquering advertising first.” They showed their Pepsi Max campaigns.
The last session we followed was the one of Andre Michelle about “Boing Bumm Tshack”, how to play around with sounds in Flash using his libraries at Google code. He explained how the good old mousefollowers code, made him see/use those same logic’s on to sound objects. Very interesting approach.
Conclusions: Very good networking event, seeing old classmates back etc. But damn it’s far to drive from Limburg! Already exhausted when you enter, and very dead when you have to leave for another +/- 2 hour drive.
