227_google-adwordsI keep receiving promotions from Google AdWords to “Get Started. The vouchers were ranging from €50 towards €60. All because I’m using tools like Google webmaster tools, Google Local business Center, etc.

“Attract more visitors to your website with a free advertising credit worth € 50,00″.

So logically I was very curious to try it out for the first time. Without forgetting that nothing is really for free. Once you’ve completed all the necessary steps, you’ll see (probably not) 3 small lines of text in the end. Which, as always, are important to read.

The following made me log off directly. And cancel my completion of the Adwords activation process:

  • Once the promotion code amount is used up, we’ll continue serving your ads and will start charging the form of payment that you provided.
  • The promotion code does not apply to the activation fee.
  • An expiry date is often applied, so keep in mind that you only have a certain amount of time to redeem your credit.

If these “free offers” are ment to make users get to know “Google Adwords” for the first time …offer them a possitive experience. You just cannot keep charging automatically after the free promotion voucher value has been spent. And charge that extra activation fee (which isn’t included in the “free offer”).

For that first time I can’t imagine feeling relaxed, knowing that at every click on my adwords, I could be charged more then the “free” vouchers value.

Even if you can set the maximum daily “click” budget… You have this scenario of “Overdelivery”:

Google may allow up to 20% more clicks (or impressions, for cost-per-impression campaigns) in one day than what your daily budget specifies. We call this overdelivery.

adwords-qualified-company-logoI guess now we all know why these “badges” are all over the web. You first need a training of a day or so to really feel comfortable with this kind of worklow.
