Discover Microsoft QR code technology alias “Tag”

February 11th, 2010 Filed under: Mobile, Tips&Tricks

I still find this an amazing piece of technology! So simple but so practical! Capture a photo of a printed QR code with your mobile device. And immediately get any kind of information on the matter. (Car promotion, festival, artist profile, real estate, etc.)

It can be more specific info, an URL, a v card, pricing, ingredients, a note, etc.

Now Microsoft has the “Tag” (beta) ;) It even has reporting included, you can track how many visits you got by people scanning your tag in a magazine!

Also check out the Charts API of Google like I did with this http://chart.apis.google.com/chart?cht=qr&chs=100×100&chl=http://www.rive.be&choe=UTF-8&chld=L|0

Let’s hope, now that the mobile market is growing exponentially worldwide… such technologies will soon be used, adapted and searched for, by a growing number of users! Can’t wait to see tons of products in the supermarket and magazines full with this printed codes!

Flash Lite Mobile Application with Nokia Web Runtime (WRT)

January 19th, 2010 Filed under: Flash, Mobile, Web

It’s so easy now! See it as a simple HTML webpage with some Javascript, CSS and an embedded Flash object. Creating widgets or applications for Nokia S60 5th edition is not that hard to do. You could use the Nokia WRT Extension for Adobe Dreamweaver or just plain old Notepad. How to package Flash content in a Widget where you zip the whole package and rename it *.wgz …et voila. More …

Adobe Distributable Player alternatives

November 15th, 2009 Filed under: Flash, Mobile

flashlitedistributable-create-packageThe Adobe Distributable Player Solution (Beta) is being dumped. Mariam elaborated on this.

With the new evolving technologies like Flex Mobile framework, Flash Player 10.1, AIR, and so on, it’s time for a better alternative! Remember the Open Screen project?

(Because, honestly, how can you deliver the same experience as on other devices, by using Flash Lite 3.1 or lower? Harsh, but sooner or later there comes a time you have to evolve too and take it a step further. Time is ticking for feature phones, everything will eventually become a smartphone. Logical Adobe stops investment there.)

Maybe Adobe will implement the next mobile distribution solution into the new “Flash Platform Distribution Service“. Maybe with their distribution partner Gigya? Looking forward to an alternative!

Project Capuchin Kit

March 31st, 2009 Filed under: Flash, Mobile

se_logoFinally another step into making the project more understandable for beginners. They packaged their services into MXP’s. So they are easy/understandable for use from Flash. “It provides the bridge between Flash Lite™ and the Java™ ME platform.”

They still have a lot more work to do if compared with, let’s say, Nokia. And how they are pushing the community onwards. Sony Ericsson has to continue making this Capuchin development proces more easy/attractive/understandable to mobile developers if you ask me. We’re frontend developers…not Java people. ;)

Flash Lite Feather Framework and LayoutManager

March 2nd, 2009 Filed under: Flash, Mobile, Tips&Tricks

featherI couldn’t believe there was such thing called a framework for AS2 code? On top of that it’s even for Flash Lite development. Worth checking out, as soon as there comes some time free for more research projects ;) My first opinion was, for sure it will be too large/heavy for flash lite development. But after reading this, it proved me wrong I guess. They say it’s simple & lightweight.

Feather Framework consists of 23 classes and a few Open Source projects from other developers;

  • ASAP Framework: We included this framework because have great utilities. However, it’s too heavy for Flash Lite, so we added only the necessary classes.
  • TweenLite: Probably the best light-weight tween library.
  • QueueLoader: A very simple class to load images in a queue in order to avoid the five request limitation in Flash Lite.

It looks very promissing.
